First aid demonstration sessions in schools across South Wales with St John Ambulance

National Grid Electricity Distribution continues support for St John Ambulance Wales

St John Ambulance Cymru – the leading first aid charity for Wales, and National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) are continuing their work together, as National Grid staff members have recently given up their time to volunteer at St John Ambulance Cymru’s ambulance depot in Cardiff.

The partnership began in 2024, when we sponsored 20 of St John Ambulance Cymru’s first aid demonstration sessions in schools across South Wales between January and April 2024. These sessions taught young people the basics of first aid and also highlighted electrical safety - invaluable knowledge that could help to save a life.

We’ve also recently gone the extra mile in their support of the first aid charity, with several staff members supporting with vehicle cleaning, equipment checks and re-stocking at St John Ambulance Cymru’s Ambulance Operations HQ at Norbury Road in Cardiff.

National Grid’s safety messages are focused around helping people avoid potential electrical dangers and with St John Ambulance Cymru’s activity teaching the people of Wales lifesaving skills that can be used in an emergency, the partnership makes perfect sense.

James Cordell, Relationship and Partnership Manager at St John Ambulance Cymru commented: “We were delighted to have members of National Grid’s workforce volunteer with us recently, it was great to see them so eager to help.

National Grid have been a huge support to our charity this year, supporting our free first aid demonstrations in schools and now helping out with our Ambulance Operations department which supports the NHS and members of the community who need our care.

A huge thanks to everyone at National Grid for your ongoing help, enabling us to further support communities in Wales and ultimately save more lives.

We’re looking forward to continuing our work together in the future!”

Emily Green, Volunteering & Sponsorship Coordinator at National Grid also commented “We are proud to support this life saving charity which helps so many of the local communities and customers that we serve across South Wales. This perfect partnership supports our ongoing commitment to educate children on electrical safety and grow our relationship with local schools.

Several of our employees were delighted to visit St John Ambulance Cymru’s Ambulance Operations HQ and give their time through our new employee volunteering programme.

We’re committed to supporting local charities and community groups, and look forward to continuing our support of St John Ambulance Cymru.”
